Weekends with Carly Andersson

Tell us a little about yourself..

Hi! my name is Carly. I’m originally from the southwest of Western Australia but have lived in Melbourne for around 3 years now, currently studying to become a midwife (aka, baby catcher) which keeps me super busy.

Where can we find you most weekends?

I tend to escape the hustle and bustle of the city most weekends. I love discovering new places within the beautiful Victorian region. When the suns out I’m usually down the coast, surfing with my partner or venturing to waterfalls. Melbourne winters can be quite challenging compared to what I’m used to but I try to make the most of it. We travel to the snow and do hikes when the beach weather subsides.

Describe your ideal long weekend getaway..

Loading the car up the night before, waking early with coffee and escaping to a beautiful camping location! Good friends, wine and delicious food.

What do you love most about where you live?

The food! Melbourne continues to blow me away with its food and coffee culture. I love having the choice of so many foods from different parts of the world. I live in Coburg, which is filled with lots of middle eastern food, so much hummus and falafel it’s out of control. I also love venturing to the western suburbs of Melbourne to indulge in Ethiopian cuisine. It’s my new fav!

Favorite local spots?

Half moon café, Coburg “Best falafel wraps in Melbs”

Tell us your beach essentials..

LOC hat of course!

When do you feel most like yourself?

I always tend to feel at home and content when traveling home to see family. I guess I get home sick living in a big old city and miss them a lot. I recently visited my parents who were in a remote area of northern WA, I flew in from Melbourne to the smallest little airport surrounded by nothing but red dirt. I was welcomed home with a fishing and camping trip, it was the best. Dad took us out on his boat to the deserted Montebello islands, after many waves we set up camp, ate fresh fish and watched the sun go down. It was bliss.
